What inspires you?

We’re bombarded with images and ideas on a daily basis, but only a select few really stick with us, inspire us to create, design or see something differently. Here at Khamis Design we’ve all got our favourite ways to re-energize and, not to overuse the word, inspire our creative juices. To name a few, Ali loves movies (from drama to documentary, but most importantly Star Trek), Tracy loves food (cooking and tastings) and Lynn loves to read (online and off).

Quite ironically while surfing for (yup, again) inspiration for this post we came across this entry from Wikipedia:

Inspiration or Inspire may refer to:
▪ Artistic inspiration, sudden creativity in artistic production
▪ Biblical inspiration, the doctrine in Judeo-Christian theology concerned with the divine origin of the Bible

Ironic as the first of many “Inspirational” blog posts/photo albums to come is about one of Ali’s favourite things in the world (no, not Tracy) – his 1769 Baskerville Bible. Not many of us are lucky enough to own an item of such historical significance or one that quietly encouraged you to enter into the design industry (see how I didn’t use inspire there?).

From the binding, to the woodcut illustrations, to the typesetting (and did we mention that “Baskerville” is his favourite font?), it’s not an uncommon sight to see Ali sitting and quietly reading it when he needs a little creative kick.

And next time you pop around, don’t be afraid to ask Ali about it. He’s always happy to talk your ear off about his baby. Just make sure you’ve got a few hours free.

But again we ask – what inspires you?
